PD for Online Glasses Orders (Pupillary Distance)

When you check out at any online glasses store, it will want your PD. A single PD like 63 or a dual PD like 31.5/32, right eye first, is what most shops accept, and plenty of them also provide a way for you to measure it.

Where Do Shops Ask You to Enter PD?

The table collects what the help pages of the shops themselves say about taking a PD measurement and typing it in. The tools at shops change, so each row links to the page that is current.

The Warby Parker PD Tool

You can get a PD reading from Warby Parker in your browser or within its app. Place a card under your nose and take a single photo. For reading glasses, the guidance is to take 3 mm off your single PD, or 1.5 mm off each eye's figure (Warby Parker). A PD taken with the camera measurement here can also be entered on its order form.

Zenni PD Measuring Tool and Ruler

A digital PD tool from Zenni Optical works with a standard card and the camera on your phone or computer. You can enter a single PD such as 62 on its form, or a dual PD such as 32/30, listing the right eye (OD) first. When a prescription lists a pair like 63/60, the first figure is the distance PD and the second is the near PD.

EyeBuyDirect and GlassesUSA PD

In the prescription form's PD section, the i button opens EyeBuyDirect's PD tool; a printable ruler is offered as well. It also asks for a near PD when the order is progressive or bifocal.

GlassesUSA provides a measuring guide, plus PD boxes at checkout and a comment box for any value missing from the list. Progressives and bifocals have a separate Near PD box, and when you order for a child you must supply that child's own PD.

LensCrafters and Specsavers PD Measurement

To measure PD, LensCrafters provides its Opthy app as well as guides for doing it alone or with a friend. A dual PD is shown as two numbers, for example 32/30, with the right eye (OD) placed first (LensCrafters). Specsavers in the UK says your PD is needed to buy glasses online, and it offers a guide for measuring it yourself (Specsavers).

Costco, Walmart and Other Store Opticals

If you get glasses made at a store optical such as Costco Optical, Walmart Vision Center or Visionworks, the optician measures your PD, so you rarely enter it yourself. If you are buying from another seller, request the PD along with your prescription. After the exam, US eye doctors must give you the prescription, and some states require the PD to appear on it (FTC Eyeglass Rule).

No PD? Measure It Before You Order

A shop's app is not required. Use a bank card plus your camera to measure your PD, then put the number in whatever order form you use. Guessing from an average PD is weaker than using your own number.
